A Journey towards Enlightenment
It is aptly remarked by Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, “One has to dream before one’s dream can come true” but such instances seldom exist for the disadvantage section of the society. As such people are confined in their own niche and have a limited exposure of the outer world and hence, left unaware of the recent technological innovations, career opportunities and the likes. It is an irony that such mass forms the major chunk of the population but condition of education in this section of society is abysmal primarily due to the absence of proper infrastructure and lack of awareness ultimately being an impediment in the career building of students.
Believing in the fact that ’’ Education is a fundamental human right and essential for the exercise of all other human rights”, Mr O.P.Chaudhary, District Collector and Magistrate of Raipur, has undertaken slew of innovative measures for improving the condition of education in the district. With a thought of “Today’s youth will be tomorrow’s leader”, the district administration has focused on extending quality education for nurturing highly qualified human capital that will further aide in nation building. This remarkable thought has laid foundation of “Disha Express” project wherein students from 9th to 12th standard of government schools are taken on one day trip to various renowned institutes in the district which provides the students with an opportunity explore various career opportunities available in the contemporary world .Thus, providing them a real time guidance when they need it the most as at this time every single one of them has started thinking about her/his career.
Under the program “Disha”, the students are toured to 8 renowned institutions of India located in the district namely International Institute of Information Technology(IIIT), Indian Institute of Management (IIM), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), National Institute of Technology (NIT), Central Library of Raipur, Medical College and Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Avam Jansanchar University. For the easy implementation of program a robust planning and mapping of schools is crucial and inevitable. Hence, the district administration has efficiently mapped the schools against dates of visit before the inception of first trip. To amplify impact of the outreach program, the administration has decided to cover 100000 students in 300 days. The project was commenced on 8th September 2017 and by the end of 31st March 2018, it has successfully covered 14200 students.
To meet the target efficiently and effectively, the administration has hired a fleet of two buses each with a seating capacity of 110-120, which will ply every day. Besides, food during the trip has also been arranged for the students. The fund for this innovative initiative is accounted in District Mineral Fund(DMF).
The administration has identified a nodal officer in these 8 institutes who welcomes the students and are responsible for showing them entire institutes. Also, they share about the courses and its relevance, that the institute is running and how admission in such courses can transform one’s life. This initiative does not only motivate the students for higher studies, but it also explains the catalytical role of education in one’s life.
As aptly said “Sometimes it’s a journey that teaches you a lot about your destination” and Disha express aims to provide an opportunity to the students in designing their career and utilise the education economically.
